The work Short Stories from the Daily News is a series of drawings combined with text, subsumed to short stories. Image and text are taken on from the newspaper (photography and caption). The photography is translated to drawing and the printed text replaced by handwriting. The text layer, in itself often appearing like fragments of dialogues or comments, is brought together with the drawing; the capture, which in the newspaper is situated outside of the frame, is moved into the picture.
By means of the very reduced and sketch-like appearance of the drawing a lot of information from the original image gets lost, this enables to focus on the text-image relation, which, taken out of its context, is often marked by discrepancy, and encourages the search for a link, allowing different, individual interpretations.
